Is Creativity an Act of Selfishness? Absolutely

Eventually, the output doesn’t matter; your happiness does.

All of us are creative in our own, unique ways, whether we are ready to acknowledge it or not. If you are an artist, you are creative in your art, be it music, painting, drawing or sculpturing. If you are a craftsman, you are creative in your craft. If you are a trader, you would be creative in your dealings with your customers and business associates. If you happen to be a computer programmer, your creativity lies in the way you work on those algorithms and codes. For a scientist, the way he thinks and carries out his experiments makes him creative.

Creativity is the energy that fuels every act that we perform. It’s the vital power of our mind. The energy is so powerful that we often have this huge urge to show off our creativity in everything we do – cooking a meal, writing a poem, or designing a house. When we dip into this huge reservoir of positive energy, the output naturally comes out to be spell-binding.

Conversely, when our creative expressions get subverted, for whatever reason (good or bad) we naturally start feeling frustrated and experience low self-esteem. Maybe if Adolf  Hitler had been accepted into an art college during his younger days, the Holocaust and the World War Two could have been avoided altogether! How is that for a thought?

When we think creativity, art is the first thing that strikes to mind. However, art is just a tiny portion of the bigger scheme of things. As humans, we need to express and when people around us understand what we are trying to convey, we feel very happy. We find our groove and our unique ways of expressing ourselves. Creativity is the speech that lets us express the right thing in a captivating manner. Nevertheless, there could be times when words are not enough. We need something more to reveal our deepest feelings.

Different people have different ways of expressing, be it through music, paintings, drawings, sculptures or even wall graffiti. It may deface a wall, but its expression, alright. Used in a dignified manner, no medium should limit art. You can express your creativity in the way you dress, the way you style your hair, even the house you live in and in the gadgets or cars you drive. The expression can be subtle or loud depending upon your preference – so long as it is legitimately yours.

Creative expression can channelize your happiness, your sorrow, your anger and also your contentment. You can use it in your business, as a therapy, as a hobby, as your work or just for fun! Today’s world gives a multitude of platforms to foster and showcase creativity – even selfies are nothing but a hyperbolic expression of the self! In the final analysis, you don’t have to do something unique in order to be creative. All you need to do is execute your ideas with great care, love, respect, interest and joy. What is really important is to be creative in whatever you do. The output doesn’t matter; your happiness does. It is fine to be a little selfish when you want to be creative for creativity is an act of selfishness!

I connect loose ends, I build bridges.
Walking on those bridges, relations are built. After that, the fear of saying ‘yes’ or ‘no’, no longer crosses my mind.
Was I meant to do what I am doing today? Umm…
I am a Computer Science Engineer and that taught me how to work with codes. I am glad that today I am working with People, instead and Oh! How I love the adrenaline it brings.

Ek hi client meeting mein perfect brief nikalvaana, is almost impossible I guess.
But I am trying, I am waiting.

I enjoy curating brand strategies and I am a fan of the process. This process, that involves trusting our people and telling them what I feel, as it is. Always.
I am curious.
Always was,
Still am, Always will be.
Helps me dive deep.
